Chronic low-back pain is a common issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Traditional treatments often focus on managing specific symptoms rather than addressing the root cause of the problem.

Prolotherapy injections, on the other hand, offer a promising alternative for those seeking relief. This non-surgical treatment involves injecting a solution into damaged ligaments, tendons, or joints. The injection then triggers an inflammatory response, stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. These injections are emerging as a promising alternative for those seeking long-term relief from chronic low-back pain.

Running Shoe Restorative Healthcare offers evidence-based treatments like Botox, trigger point injections, PRP therapy, and more to help you regain function and live life to the fullest. Our multidisciplinary team provides personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs, ensuring effective pain relief and long-term healing. Our dedicated experts are ready to support you every step of the way!

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy, also known as regenerative injection therapy or proliferation therapy, is a non-surgical treatment designed to promote healing and reduce pain by stimulating the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Prolotherapy involves injecting a solution—usually containing dextrose, saline, or other irritants—into the affected ligaments, tendons, or joints. The injected solution triggers the body’s inflammatory response, which in turn promotes the repair and strengthening of the damaged tissues.

How Does Prolotherapy Work?

The main principle behind prolotherapy is to induce a localized inflammatory response that stimulates tissue regeneration. When the solution is injected into the damaged area, it causes a mild inflammatory reaction. This reaction increases blood flow and attracts immune cells and growth factors to the site, which aids in the repair and regeneration of injured tissues. Over time, this process helps to strengthen the weakened structures and alleviate pain.

Benefits of Prolotherapy for Chronic Low-Back Pain

Long-Lasting Relief

Unlike conventional treatments that mainly focus on symptom management, prolotherapy aims to address the underlying cause of chronic low-back pain. By promoting the healing of damaged tissues, prolotherapy can provide long-lasting relief.

Non-Surgical Treatment

Prolotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require surgery. This makes it a safer option for individuals who want to avoid the risks and recovery time associated with surgical interventions.

Reduction in Pain & Inflammation

Prolotherapy injections help reduce pain and inflammation by stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. Patients often notice a significant decrease in their pain levels after undergoing prolotherapy sessions.

Improved Mobility & Function

By strengthening the ligaments, tendons, and joints, prolotherapy can improve overall mobility and function. This is particularly beneficial for individuals whose chronic low-back pain has limited their ability to perform daily activities.

What to Expect During Prolotherapy Treatment

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, a qualified healthcare professional will assess your medical history and conduct a physical examination to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for prolotherapy. They may also recommend imaging studies such as X-rays or MRI scans to get a better understanding of the underlying cause of your pain.

Treatment Sessions

Prolotherapy treatment involves a series of injections administered over several sessions. The number of sessions required may vary depending on the severity of your condition and your body’s response to the treatment. Each session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes.

Post-Treatment Care

After the injections, you may experience mild discomfort or swelling at the injection sites. This is a normal part of the healing process and usually subsides within a few days. Your healthcare provider may recommend avoiding strenuous activities and applying ice to the treated areas to manage any discomfort.

Is Prolotherapy Right for You?

If you suffer from chronic low-back pain and have not found relief through traditional treatments, prolotherapy may be worth considering. It’s important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to determine if this treatment is suitable for your specific condition.
