Who is This Program for?

Anyone looking to start running can benefit from this program. You might be interested in the program if you are:

  • Trying running for the first time
  • Returning to running after a long break
  • Beginning running and worried about your technique or injuries
  • Have a previous injury and want to start running safely

How We Measure Success

Over the course of the 5-week program, you will build a foundation to keep you running into the future, whether that means running around your neighbourhood or running marathons. We’ll begin every class with a brief educational session before moving into foundational running exercises. Success is different for everyone, and we encourage you to define what success means to you.

Program Schedule

The first week is all about introducing you to running. We dive into a discussion on the origins of running as a sport, benefits of running, how to calculate your target heart rate, and how to warm up and cool down.

In week 2, we’ll discuss running technique. We’ll teach you how to position your body as you run because the proper technique will allow you to run more efficiently and reduce the risk of injury.

In the third week, we move into discussing common running injuries. Building on running technique from week 2, we show you how to run to help prevent injuries from happening.

Week 4 focuses on what the core is, and how to train this group of muscles. One of the most crucial, yet underrecognized groups of muscles for running is the core. Properly engaging your core is necessary to increase efficiency while running, and to prevent lower back injuries.

In addition to running training, we’ll end the course with an introduction to running nutrition. We’ll discuss what nutrients to look for and why they’re important for running.
