We Can Help You Get Back to Work

It’s your right to report and receive treatment for injuries that occur while you are on the job. Make sure you report your injury to your employer, your doctor, and your physiotherapist or chiropractor as soon as possible so you can begin treatment and get back to work.

The WCB Process

You should report your injury to your employer as soon as possible. Your employer is obligated to report your injury to WCB within 72 hours after you report it. You should also report your injury directly to WCB by completing a Worker’s Report of Injury.

Visit your doctor who will complete a “Doctors Report”. If necessary for your injury, your doctor will write you a referral for physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment.

If you have been referred to a physiotherapist or a chiropractor, they will assess your injury and send a first report to WCB for approval. Depending on your injury, up to 6 weeks of physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment may be covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you need a doctor’s referral in order to be eligible for WCB. First visit your doctor. Then your doctor will recommend whether you need to visit us for a physiotherapy or chiropractic assessment.

Once you have made a WCB claim, the WCB will pay for your initial exam and your first treatment session. Further treatment may be authorized if your WCB claim is approved. Depending on your injury, you may be covered for up to 6 weeks of physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment.

In order to get WCB coverage, your injury needs to be reported to WCB Alberta. If your therapist or chiropractor thinks your injury qualifies as a workplace injury, they are obligated to report the injury under the Worker’s Compensation Act (WCA).

Once you’ve told your employer and visited a healthcare professional, both your employer and doctor should report the injury to WCB. WCB should contact you within 7 days.
